ASCCA commemorates Black January tragedy
Academy of the State Customs Committee hosted a commemoration event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of January 20 tragedy. The executives, employees, students of the Academy, and the members of "Customs Volunteer" attended the event.
A minute of silence was observed to honor the memory of the martyrs ,who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. The event started with the National Anthem of Azerbaijan.
The head of the Academy, Major General of the Customs Service, Gulu Novruzov, made an introductory speech, and talked about the important role of January 20 events in the history of our independence. Speaking about the history of the tragedy happened in Baku 34 years ago, G. Novruzov said that the true political and legal assessment of the events of January 20 was given only after the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s return to power. The speaker stressed that the blood of all our martyrs, including the victims of the January 20 tragedy, did not remain on the ground with the liberation of our lands from occupation and the waving of our tricolor flag in our native Karabakh. The "Iron Fist" operation in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev led to the great victory .
The head of the academy drew attention to the importance of passing on a history full of heroism and victories to future generations. He noted that the memories of all the martyrs of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives for our sovereignty and territorial integrity will always be remembered with a sense of gratitude.
Making a speech, Jamila Hasanova, the history teacher of the Academy, PhD in history, noted that the tragedy of January 20, written as a heroic stage in the history of the struggle for the freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, is a triumph of determination and patriotism. Hasanova emphasized that despite the fact that 34 years have passed, this history will always be remembered as the day when our people stood up for independence and national ideology and proved that they were ready to sacrifice their lives for freedom.
Later, Aybeniz Gozalova, a second-year law student of the Academy, made a presentation on "January 20 events as an international crime".
Following the event, students of the Academy recited the patriotic poems.
