The 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was commemorated at the ASCCA

A commemorative event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Academy of the State Customs Committee (ASCCA) on February 26. The Academy's management, employees, students, as well as, Member of Parliament Azer Allahveranov; the associate professor of Baku State University, candidate of historical sciences Boran Aziz; the children of National Hero Allahverdi Bagirov, officers from the State Border Service – Captain of Medical Service Aynur Bagirova and Lieutenant Colonel Zumrud Bagirova; Shukufa Hajiyeva, Khojaly resident, the sister of National Hero Alif Hajiyev; Maleyka Majidova, the mother of the hero of the Patriotic War, martyr Major Elchin Mansurov, and Khojaly resident Eldeniz Agayev, brother of Durdana Agayeva, a living witness to the horrors of Khojaly, participated.

The event commenced with a one-minute silence commemorating the Khojaly genocide victims and all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our republic. Following this, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed.

First, at the event, a video clip was presented, highlighting the courageous path of National Hero Alif Hajiyev, who was martyred in the bloody battles in Khojaly, along with our National Hero martyrs Allahverdi Bagirov and Aliyar Aliyev, who revenged the Khojaly victims and freed them from captivity.

Greeting the participants of the event, the head of the Academy, Major General of the Customs Service Gulu Novruzov, reviewed the history of the Khojaly genocide and emphasized that this tragedy was one of the most serious crimes committed against the civilians during Armenia's military aggression against our country 33 years ago. He noted that by raising the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan in the city of Khojaly, the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev demonstrated that the blood of the genocide victims did not go unrevenged. Concluding his speech, he highlighted the significant responsibility young peoplehold in conveying the truths of Azerbaijan to the world, and wished God's mercy upon all our martyrs and healing for our veterans.

Speaking at the event, Boran Aziz, a Candidate of Historical Sciences, provided detailed information about the Khojaly genocide and emphasized its grave consequences. The speaker analyzed that period in a historical context, and stated that this genocide was carried out to prevent the Azerbaijani people's aspiration to establish independence.

MP Azer Allahveranov also spoke at the event, anddiscussed the essence of the Khojaly tragedy and the importance of combining efforts to raise awareness about the perpetrators on a global scale.

Later, other speakers shared their painful memories of the particularly brutal crime of genocide, expressing that those days left indelible scars in the memory of our people and will never be forgotten.
